There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent area, a three to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; although, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 17:00, and though visas are apparently needed to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked ship gambling den, highlights 150 slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall is open all hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. A total of 150 slot machines and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-inclusive vacation and hotel building that highlights a number of conveniences accompanying the gambling hall, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 slot machine games and 88 tables.
