There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling den betting is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are ways around this, as is true of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machines and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that contains a number of amenities accompanying the gambling den, which houses ten thousand square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 gaming tables.
