There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight gambling dens are situated in a generally tiny space in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime location, a three to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; still, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes required to pass, there are ways around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored boat gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and sixty gaming tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and five tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features many amenities accompanying the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
